Print resolution is 600 x 600 dpi on the HL-L1222. The wireless companion model lists HQ1200 enhancement, but this version does not. Single-sided speed reaches up to 20 ppm on A4 paper and 21 ppm on Letter paper. First-page output takes less than 10.0 seconds at 23 °C. Without an automatic duplex mechanism in the specification, two-sided printing needs manual page turning.

Paper loads through one standard tray for plain or recycled sheets. The tray accepts A4, Letter, Legal, Folio, A5, long-edge A5, B5 JIS, B5 ISO, Executive, and 16K sizes.
