Originals can go on the flatbed or into the 35-sheet automatic document feeder, which takes pages up to Legal size.

The scanner glass accepts originals up to 8.5 x 11.69 inches. ISO print speed reaches 8.5 pages per minute in black and 5.5 pages per minute in colour. Draft mode raises those figures to 20 ppm and 16 ppm. Black documents can render at up to 1200 x 1200 dpi. Colour output reaches 4800 x 1200 optimized dpi under the required print conditions.

Scanning reaches 1200 x 1200 dpi, but copying uses a lower 300 x 300 dpi resolution. The control panel can request up to nine copies in one job. A single rear tray holds 60 sheets for ordinary document printing. Finished pages collect in a 25-sheet output tray, so larger jobs may need attention before the input tray empties. Letter and Legal paper fit, along with common photo sizes and number 10 envelopes.

The rear tray holds no more than five envelopes. Automatic duplex printing is not available, so each sheet must be turned by hand for two-sided output. Borderless printing is also absent. A nearby computer can connect through Hi-Speed USB 2.0. Wireless jobs travel over 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi, and phones can print through Apple AirPrint, Mopria Print Service, or the HP app. With its trays closed, the body measures 16.85 x 13.07 x 7.87 inches and weighs about 10.6 pounds.
