HP Officejet J6424 Printer Overview

The HP Officejet printer J6424 All-in-one series model is a PC-assist copy-enabled printer. This particular function helps you to make copies easily with this model. The PC-Assist, however, requires an HP software, the computer turned on and the printer also on, and connected to the network. The printer has a relatively moderate size of 19 x 18.9 x 10.3 inches dimensions and a weight of 19 lbs.

HP Officejet J6424 printer driver for Windows

The printer HP Officejet J6424 driver supports Microsoft Windows XP (32-bit and 64-bit), Windows Vista and Windows 7 (both 32-bit and 64-bit). Windows XP (32-bit) requires a processor of an Intel Pentium II or Celeron. The recommended processor, however, is Intel Pentium III or higher processor. For Windows XP (64-bit), processor type is an AMD Athlon 64 or Opteron, Intel Xeon processor with Intel EM64T support. Also, it is compatible with an Intel Pentium 4 processor with Intel EM64T support. For Windows Vista or Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit), the minimum processor is 80 MHz, but HP recommends 1 GHz.

The required RAM size for Windows XP (32-bit and 64-bit) is 128 MB while HP recommends a 256 MB of RAM. The minimum free hard disk space on both versions of Windows is 280 MB while HP recommends 500 MB. These requirements must be on the ground before attempting to runt eh printer software for installation. The printer is also compatible with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or later versions. Windows Vista and Windows require a minimum RAM of 512 MB, but HP recommends 1 GB while the free hard disk space should be 1.2 GB.

HP Officejet J6424 driver for Mac

The HP Officejet J6424 driver supports Mac OS versions X 10.3.9, 10.4, 10.5, 10.6 and v10.7. The software and drivers for Mac OS X 10.6 and 10.7 must be downloaded and installed through Apple Software Update. The minimum processor type for versions 10.3.9 and higher as well as 10.4.6 and higher is 400 MHz Power PC G3. Whereas, HP recommends 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo for v10.4.6 and higher versions. The printer requires any compatible system to have a RAM size of 256 MB with 800 MB free hard disk space.

The printing device has an inbuilt memory of 64 MB of RAM. This feature has a 16 MB built-in MROM with additional 2 MB built-in flash ROM.

Connectivity

The compatible standard connectivity is through a Hi-speed USB 2.0-compliant port. Also, it has a wireless 802.11b/g and a Wired Ether network port through which it can connect to other office devices.

Print Resolution and Speed

The print resolution is up to 1200 dpi (black) with pigmented black ink. The color print, however, has an enhanced photo quality of up to 4800 x 1200 optimized dpi. This kind of impression is however only achievable on an HP Premium Plus photo paper with 1200 x 1200 input dpi. The print speed is 31 pages per minute (ppm) for black and 25 ppm for color.

Paper Handling

The HP Printer Officejet J6424 supports quite some printer media types and page sizes. These include the Plain paper, Labels, Envelopes, Cards, Photo paper, and Transparencies. The printer’s input tray has a maximum capacity of up to 250 sheets of plain paper while this amount decreases for other media sizes.

Limitations

1. The printer has no automatic duplexer. The implication of this is that the printer can not work by itself, print on both sides of the paper. The paper may have to turn if the user wants to use this feature.
2. USB cable not in the printer package. The user may have to get one from a trusted store.
