HP DeskJet 2827e Driver gives the computer access to the printer’s print and flatbed scan controls. Copying takes place at the machine, while scanned files return to the connected computer through supported software. A nearby computer can use USB, or jobs can arrive over the wireless network. The driver translates those commands so the printhead, scanner, and status controls respond correctly. Without the proper software, the operating system may detect the printer without exposing every function.

The HP DeskJet 2827e is a colour thermal inkjet all-in-one that prints, scans, and copies. Its two-cartridge ink system uses pigment black ink and a dye-based tri-colour cartridge. Basic commands come from buttons and a small icon LCD. Scanning relies on a flatbed, so each original must be placed on the glass by hand. No automatic document feeder or fax hardware is fitted.

Black documents run at up to 7.5 ISO pages per minute, and colour pages reach 5.5 ISO pages per minute. Black print resolution rises to 1200 x 1200 rendered dpi. On selected HP photo paper, colour output can reach 4800 x 1200 optimized dpi. The scanner records at up to 1200 x 1200 dpi, but copies are limited to 300 x 300 dpi. Up to nine copies can be made in one job.

Paper enters through a 60-sheet rear tray, and the output tray holds 25 printed sheets. Letter and Legal paper fit alongside common photo sizes such as 4 x 6, 5 x 7, and 8 x 10 inches. The same feed also takes number 10 envelopes, cards, brochure sheets, and compatible photo paper. Automatic duplexing is not built in, so two-sided pages require manual turning. Borderless output is also unavailable.

A nearby computer can use the Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connection. Wireless printing runs over a 2.4 GHz 802.11b/g/n network, and compatible devices can also send jobs through the HP app, Apple AirPrint, or Mopria. With the trays closed, the body measures 16.7 x 11.97 x 6.06 inches and weighs about 7.55 pounds. Opening the output extension increases its depth and height to 21.5 and 9.8 inches. HP lists a monthly duty cycle of up to 1,000 pages.
