HP DeskJet 2852e Driver connects the computer with the printer’s print and scan functions. Once installed, it gives the operating system the instructions needed to send documents and receive scans. A nearby computer can use USB, or jobs can travel across the wireless network. Copying takes place from the printer itself and does not depend on a computer connection.

The HP DeskJet 2852e combines colour printing with flatbed scanning and copying. Ink comes from one black cartridge and one tri-colour cartridge. Basic jobs are managed from physical buttons and a small icon LCD rather than a touchscreen. There is no automatic document feeder, so each original must be placed on the glass by hand. Fax hardware and internal storage are not built in.
Standard black documents print at up to 7.5 ppm on A4, and colour pages run at up to 5.5 ppm. Draft mode is faster, reaching 20 ppm in black or 16 ppm in colour. Black output can reach 1200 x 1200 rendered dpi. For colour, the highest listed quality is 4800 x 1200 optimized dpi. The flatbed scans at up to 1200 x 1200 hardware dpi, but copied pages are limited to 300 x 300 dpi.
Paper loads from a 60-sheet rear tray, then finished pages collect in an output tray rated for 25 sheets. Plain paper, photo stock, and brochure sheets can use the same feed. It also takes envelopes and selected specialty inkjet paper, including common sizes such as A4, B5, A6, and DL. Automatic duplex hardware is not fitted, so the user must turn pages over for two-sided documents. Photos also retain printable margins because borderless output is unavailable.
A nearby computer can use the Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connection. Wireless jobs travel over 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, and phones or tablets can print through the HP app, Apple AirPrint, or Mopria. With the trays closed, the body measures 425 x 304 x 154 mm. Opening the output extension increases the depth to 546 mm and the height to 250 mm. Weight is listed at 3.42 kg. HP recommends a monthly workload of 50 to 100 pages, which places the machine closer to light home use than sustained office printing.
