Brother HL-1201 Driver helps the computer communicate correctly with this monochrome laser printer during setup. Once the USB connection is ready, the machine can receive print jobs in the proper format. The driver also keeps computer-side page settings aligned with the printer response. That matching reduces command or output errors when documents move from the computer to the printer.

Brother HL-1201 Specifications

The Brother HL-1201 is a single-function monochrome laser printer. It does not include scanner, copier, or fax hardware, which separates it from Brother DCP and MFC models. Printing uses an electrophotographic laser engine with 1 MB of standard memory. The control panel is limited to status lights, so there is no LCD menu screen. Power comes from a 220 to 240 volt AC supply, and Brother lists the toner and drum as separate consumables.

On A4 paper, the printer runs at up to 20 pages per minute. Letter output is rated at 21 pages per minute. From ready mode, the first sheet comes out in less than 10 seconds under Brother’s stated 23°C and 230 V test condition. Standard print resolution is 600 x 600 dpi. Resolution Control raises the processed output quality to 2400 x 600 dpi. Automatic duplex hardware is not built in, so two-sided printing depends on manual page turning.

Paper loads from the front tray, which holds up to 150 sheets of 80 g/m2 plain paper. Finished pages exit face down into a 50-sheet output tray. The main feed is listed for plain and recycled paper from 65 to 105 g/m2. It accepts A4, Letter, Legal, Folio, A5, A5 long edge, B5, and Executive paper. Supported paper length runs from 148 to 355.6 mm.

A computer connects through Full-Speed USB 2.0. Brother recommends a Type A/B USB 2.0 cable no longer than 2.0 metres. Wireless LAN and network printing hardware are not part of this model, unlike related wireless versions listed on the same specification sheet. The body measures 340 x 238 x 189 mm and weighs 4.6 kg with consumables installed. Average power use is about 380 watts while printing, 40 watts in ready mode, and 0.5 watts in deep sleep.
