Brother DCP-T420W is an ink-tank multifunction inkjet for printing, scanning, and copying. Printing comes from a piezo print head, using 210 black nozzles and 70 nozzles for each colour channel. Inside the body, 64 MB of memory handles basic printer processing. Button controls and an LED display manage local operation instead of a touchscreen. Separate refill tanks hold black, cyan, magenta, and yellow ink.
From Windows, print resolution reaches up to 1200 × 6000 dpi with best mode and glossy media. A4 document printing runs up to 16.0 ipm in mono and 9.0 ipm in colour. Fast mode reaches 28 ppm for black output and 11 ppm for colour output. The flatbed scans at up to 1200 × 2400 dpi optical resolution. Copy reduction and enlargement run from 25% to 400%.
Paper feeds from a 150-sheet front tray. A one-sheet manual feed slot handles single envelopes or specialty media outside the main tray. Both feed paths take plain, inkjet, glossy, and recycled paper. Page sizes include A4, Letter, Legal, Folio, Executive, B5, A5, B6, and A6. Envelopes, photo sheets, and index cards also fit the paper path. A 50-sheet output area collects printed pages on 80 gsm plain paper. A nearby computer can connect through Hi-Speed USB 2.0. Wireless use runs through Wi-Fi infrastructure mode or Wireless Direct, with WPS available during setup. IEEE 802.11b/g/n carries network printing and scanning after the printer joins the wireless network. Wireless security uses WEP, WPA-PSK, or WPA2-PSK modes.
