Brother DCP-T428W is a refillable ink-tank colour inkjet multifunction printer for printing, scanning, and copying. A piezo printhead places ink through 210 black nozzles and 70 nozzles for each colour. The machine carries 128 MB of memory, while local operation uses buttons rather than a touchscreen. Scanning uses the flatbed glass, so stacked originals cannot feed automatically. Fax hardware is absent from this DCP model.
Maximum print resolution reaches up to 1200 × 6000 dpi from Windows. Fast mode reaches 28 ppm black and 11 ppm colour on supported plain paper. The flatbed scans at up to 1200 × 2400 dpi optical resolution, while Brother scanner software can interpolate scans up to 19200 × 19200 dpi. Copying works in colour or monochrome, with output up to 1200 × 1800 dpi and multiple copies up to 99 pages.
Paper input comes from a 150-sheet front tray, with a one-sheet manual feed slot for envelopes or single specialty sheets. Both paths accept plain, inkjet, glossy, and recycled paper. Document sizes include A4, Letter, Legal, Executive, A5, and A6. Envelopes, photo paper, Photo L, Photo 2L, and index cards feed through the same paper path. Finished pages exit face up to a 50-sheet tray for 80 gsm plain paper.
A nearby computer can connect through Hi-Speed USB 2, while wireless LAN handles network printing. Wireless Direct allows device-to-printer links without a router. Infrastructure networking uses IEEE 802.11b/g/n, and Wireless Direct uses IEEE 802.11g/n. Security covers WEP, WPA-PSK, and WPA2-PSK, with WPS available for setup. Borderless printing covers A4, Letter, A6, Photo, Photo L, Photo 2L, and index card sizes, while the machine weighs about 6.4 kg.
