The Brother company classifies the DCP-L2500D as a laser printer because it uses the electrophotographic laser printing technology. This method is also common to all other models in the same family series. These models include the DCP-L2520DW, DCP-L2540DN, MFC-L2700DN, MFC-L2700DW, DCP-L2560DW, MFC-L2720DW and MFC-L2740DW.

The printer input tray can hold a maximum of 250 sheets of plain or legal sheets with a standard weight of 20 lbs. The device also has a manual feed slot with one layer at a time as maximum paper capacity.

The output tray of the printer can, on the other hand, hold up to 100 sheets of printed pages of standard weight with face down delivery. There is also an automatic duplex side printing that supports plain paper, thin paper, and recycled paper with standard A4 and 60 to 105g/m² weight. The print resolution is at maximum, 1200 x 1200 dots per inch (dpi).
