The Brother company classifies the DCP-L2500D as a laser printer because it uses the electrophotographic laser printing technology. This method is also common to all other models in the same family series. These models include the DCP-L2520DW, DCP-L2540DN, MFC-L2700DN, MFC-L2700DW, DCP-L2560DW, MFC-L2720DW and MFC-L2740DW.

The printer control panel consists of a TFT color touchscreen, liquid crystal display (LCD) and a touch panel that is 2.7 inches in diagonal measurement. This component also supports 16 characters and two lines. These features make the printer very user-friendly and can run smoothly with every necessary internal and external part. All the measured standard are according to the IEC 62301 2.0 edition or the RAL- UZ171.

The supported protocols include the ARP, RARP, WINS/NetBIOS, DNS, mDNS, LLMNR, BOOTP, RARP, HTTP Server and many more. The Brother DCP-L2500D printer supports several media types such as plain paper, thin paper, thick paper, recycled paper and thicker paper. The paper sizes include A4, A5, A6, executive, legal with a standard weight of 80 gsm. The printer input tray can hold a maximum of 250 sheets of plain or legal sheets with a standard weight of 20 lbs. The device also has a manual feed slot with one layer at a time as maximum paper capacity.

The output tray of the printer can, on the other hand, hold up to 100 sheets of printed pages of standard weight with face down delivery. There is also an automatic duplex side printing that supports plain paper, thin paper, and recycled paper with standard A4 and 60 to 105g/m² weight. The print resolution is at maximum, 1200 x 1200 dots per inch (dpi).
