HP Smart Tank 726 Driver links the computer with this all-in-one printer for printing, scanning, and copying. Once installed, it helps the operating system identify each function instead of treating the unit as a basic printer. A nearby computer can use the USB connection, while wireless jobs travel across the selected network. Scanned pages can return to the computer after setup, and print data reaches the correct device queue.

HP Smart Tank 726 is a refillable-tank all-in-one inkjet built for printing, scanning, and copying. Print output uses HP Thermal Inkjet hardware with four separate bottled inks: black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. The front panel does not use a touchscreen. Instead, a 70 x 12 mm reflective positive LCD shows basic status and menu information. Scanning relies on a CIS flatbed, so originals sit one at a time on the glass. Installed memory is 128 MB.
A4 printing runs at 15 ppm in black and 9 ppm in colour at ISO speed. Draft mode is faster, reaching 23 ppm for black pages and 22 ppm for colour pages. Black output reaches 1200 x 1200 rendered dpi. Colour printing can reach 4800 x 1200 optimized dpi from a computer, using selected HP photo paper and the right print settings. The flatbed scans at up to 1200 dpi optically, with 1200 x 1200 dpi listed as the hardware scan resolution.
Paper loads from a 250-sheet input tray, which is generous for a tank printer in this class. Finished pages land in a 100-sheet output tray, so long print jobs may need clearing before the input tray runs empty. Standard paper sizes cover A4, A5, A6, and B5 JIS. Envelope work uses DL, C5, C6, and Chou sizes, with Hagaki and Ofuku Hagaki cards also accepted. Custom sheets can run from 88.9 x 127 mm up to 215.9 x 355.6 mm. Borderless printing reaches 8.5 x 11 inches or 210 x 297 mm, and automatic duplexing handles two-sided output without turning each sheet by hand.
A nearby computer can use the Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port. Wireless jobs can travel over dual-band Wi-Fi, or directly through Wi-Fi Direct when a router connection is not available. Phone and tablet printing works through Apple AirPrint, Mopria, HP Print Service Plugin, the HP app, and Wi-Fi Direct printing. There is no memory-card slot for direct card printing. HP lists a monthly duty cycle of up to 5,000 pages, although the recommended range is 400 to 800 pages. With the trays closed, the body measures 42.75 x 36.40 x 19.86 cm and weighs 6.38 kg. Sleep mode power use is listed at 2 watts.
