The internal memory of the printer is 1 GB base which is expandable to 2 GB by merely adding a DIMM memory module. By option, the user can also add an HP Secure High-Performance Hard disk to augment its functionality. The control panel has a touchscreen LCD. The print speed is at 37 pages per minute (ppm) when printing on an A4 and 40 ppm on letter-size.
HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M553x driver connectivity options include a standard hi-speed USB 2.0 port and a 10/100/1000T Ethernet LAN connection. Also, it has an easy-access USB port which has primary use of printing without a computer and upgrading the firmware. It also has a hardware integration Pocket for connecting accessory and some other third-party devices. The HP Internal USB is optional, and it does not support HP JetDirect 3000w NFC/Wireless accessory for printing from mobile devices.
