After installation, the selected connection carries print, scan, and copy commands between the computer and the machine. Brother DCP-T220 is an ink-tank multifunction inkjet for printing, scanning, and copying. A piezo print head produces output through 210 black nozzles and 70 nozzles for each colour channel. Inside the body, 64 MB of memory handles basic printer processing. Button controls and an LED status display manage local operation instead of a touchscreen. Separate refill tanks use BTD60BK black plus BT5000 cyan, magenta, and yellow ink bottles.
Print resolution reaches 1200 × 6000 dpi. A4 document printing runs up to 16 ipm in mono and 9 ipm in colour. Fast mode reaches 28 ppm for mono output and 11 ppm for colour output. First print timing reaches 6.5 seconds for mono and 10 seconds for colour. The flatbed scans at up to 1200 × 2400 dpi optical resolution. Copy output goes up to 1200 × 1800 dpi. Copy reduction and enlargement run from 25% to 400%, with stacks up to 99 pages.
Paper feeds from a 150-sheet standard tray. The manual feed slot accepts one sheet at a time outside the main tray. Both feed paths take plain, inkjet, glossy, and recycled paper. Page sizes include A4, Letter, Legal, India Legal, Folio, Executive, B5, A5, B6, and A6. Envelopes, photo sheets, and index cards also fit the paper path. Printed pages collect in a 50-sheet output area. Borderless printing works on A4, Letter, A6, Photo, Photo L, Photo 2L, and index card sizes.
A nearby computer can connect through Hi-Speed USB 2.0 with a Type A/B cable no longer than 2 m. This model omits wireless LAN, Ethernet, fax hardware, memory-card printing, PictBridge, and printable disc support. The body measures 435 mm wide, 359 mm deep, and 159 mm high. Brother lists the weight at 6.4 kg. The printer uses about 11 W while copying, 2.5 W in ready mode, 0.7 W in sleep mode, and 0.2 W when switched off.
