HP Smart Tank 595 Driver gives the computer the software link needed to use this all-in-one printer correctly. Printing and scanning rely on that connection, but copying can be started directly from the printer without sending a command from the computer. The HP Smart Tank 595 uses refillable black, cyan, magenta, and yellow ink tanks for colour thermal-inkjet printing. The same body also carries a CIS flatbed for scanning and copying. Draft mode raises that to 22 ppm and 16 ppm. Duplex printing is manual, so the sheet must be turned for the second side. The flatbed scans at 1200 x 1200 dpi, and the copier works at up to 600 x 600 dpi with as many as 99 copies.

The input tray takes up to 100 sheets, but the output tray holds 30. A4, B5, A6, and Legal sheets can use the same feed; DL envelopes also fit. Photo and brochure stock can be loaded along with ordinary plain paper. Borderless output reaches 210 x 297 mm, and custom sheets can range from 88.9 x 127 mm to 215.9 x 355.6 mm.

A nearby computer can connect through Hi-Speed USB 2.0. For wireless jobs, the printer uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Direct, which can link a compatible device without the home router. Mobile printing is available through AirPrint, Mopria, the HP app, and HP Print Service Plugin. With the trays closed, the body measures 434.66 x 361.53 x 157.26 mm and weighs 5.03 kg. Opening the trays increases the maximum depth to 580.65 mm, while ready-mode power use is listed at 3.023 watts.
