HP Deskjet 2549 cartridges

The standard connecting port is through the Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port located at the rear side of the printer. The HP Deskjet 2549 all-in-one printer has a wireless functioning in addition to the USB connection. There is no ethernet connection for networking.

Mobile printing property

The printer has mobile printing function for Apple AirPrint for devices such as iPads, iPhones and Mac devices. This app can function for printing without carrying the PC everywhere.

System requirements

The HP Deskjet 2549 all-in-one printer is compatible with the following Windows Operating systems; Windows XP Service packs III, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. The recommended system requirements for a processor is an Intel Pentium III or higher for Windows XP. For Windows Vista, Windows 7, 8 and 10, the prescribed condition is 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit.

Random Access Memory (RAM) requirement for Windows XP is 512 MB while for Windows Vista is 1 GB. For Windows 7, 8 and 10, the required RAM for optimum functionality is 2 GB. The minimum free disk space for the printer driver to work correctly is 750 MB for Windows XP. Whereas, for Windows Vista, 7, 8 and 10, the free disk space is 2 GB.

Supported Mac systems include Mac OS X v10.9 Mavericks, OS X v10.11 El Capitan, Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard, Mac OS X v10.10 Yosemite, Mac OS X v10.8 Mountain Lion, and Mac OS X v10.7 Lion.


The supported browsers for this optimum performance of this printer include Internet Explorer 6.0 or later, Google Chrome 3.0 and Mozilla Firefox 2.0. Other essential applications that can work compatibly are the Adobe Reader 6.0 (or more recent versions) and Adobe Flash 10 (or later version).


HP Deskjet 2549 works on an HP drop-on-demand Thermal Inkjet technology which uses two ink cartridges; one for black and the other a tri-color cartridge. The compatible ones include

2. HP 301 black and tri-colored (for Western Europe)

Paper Handling

The printer has two main trays; one for input and the other an output tray. The input tray can load a total of 50 sheets of plain paper. Whereas, the output tray can only hold a total capacity of 30 sheets.

Printing Resolutions

Printing mode resolution for this product is at 600 x 300 dpi which however can reach 600 x 600 dpi when optimized. The maximum dpi resolution is 4800 x 1200 dpi. The device language of the printer is the PCL3 GUI.

Regarding speed, the first page of the printer comes after just about 17 seconds for black and within 24 seconds for colored. The regular prints speed is up to 20 pages per minute (ppm) for black. Whereas, for colored prints, the printer works at the rate of 16 ppm. The monthly duty cycle of the HP 2549 printer is 1000 pages, but the recommended usage should be lesser than that.

Copy speed and resolution

The copy function of the printer is at the rate of 4.5 cpm for monochrome and 3.0 for color. The standard resolution of this copying is 600 x 300 dpi for both colored and black.

Scanning resolution

The resolution of scanning is 1200 x 1200 dpi at a color depth of 24-bit and 8-bit grayscale.

Power usage

Power consumption for HP Deskjet 2549 is minimal. When at optimum use, it consumes a maximum of 10 watts from an external supply. At standby, it only uses 1.6 watts of power. When asleep but plugged in though, the usage is just 0.8 watts but when switched off, and plugged in, 0.2 watts of power.


1. The printer has no HP ePrint mobile printing ability
2. There is no ethernet connection
3. The custom size of paper is only supported on Mac Operating systems and not on Windows.
4. The printer has no scan button. Scanning will have to be done using the installed HP printer software
