The Epson EcoTank ET-3956 is a white A4 multifunction inkjet built for printing, scanning, and copying. Its PrecisionCore printhead carries 400 black nozzles and 128 nozzles for each colour. Pigment black ink fills one tank, and the three colour tanks use dye-based ink. Local controls sit on a 6.1 cm colour panel. Status lights above the tank cover remain visible during operation.
Print resolution reaches 4,800 x 1,200 dpi. Standard A4 documents run at 18 ppm in mono or 9 ppm in colour. Draft mode raises those figures to 35 and 23 ppm on 75 g/m² paper, although this setting favours speed over finished quality. A mono first page takes about 8.5 seconds, compared with 13.5 seconds for colour. The CIS scanner reads originals at an optical resolution of 1,200 x 2,400 dpi.
The front cassette holds 250 sheets, but the output tray collects only 30 printed pages. Longer jobs may therefore need the tray cleared before the input supply runs out. A 30-page automatic document feeder processes A4 originals and can scan or copy both sides automatically. Duplex printing is also available for A4 plain paper. Borderless printing covers common office and photo sizes, including A4, A5, A6, Letter, 10 x 15 cm, and 13 x 18 cm. B-series sheets and Number 10, DL, or C6 envelopes are accepted where listed.
A nearby computer can connect by USB, and Ethernet links the printer to a wired network. Wireless jobs can use dual-band Wi-Fi 5 or Wi-Fi Direct, which does not need the home router. Phones and tablets can send work through Apple AirPrint, Mopria, Epson Smart Panel, or Epson Connect. Mopria Scan and Epson services also transfer scanned pages to compatible devices. With the trays closed, the body measures 375 x 347 x 240 mm and weighs 7.2 kg. Power use is rated at 15 watts during standalone copying and 6.9 watts in ready mode on a 100–240 V AC supply.
