The maximum resolution of the Canon PIXMA MP198 print machine is up to 4800 x 1200 dots per inch (dpi). These perspectives apply to the horizontal and vertical dimensions, respectively, at the machine’s best quality output. It also has the smallest ink droplet size to be about picolitre (pl). In terms of the ink tanks, the device has compatible models of PG-830 for pigment black. It supports the use of CL-831 for dye cyan, yellow, and magenta colors.

The optional cartridge models include PG-40 for pigment black and CL-41 for dye cyan, yellow and magenta colors. The ink capacity of the machine by standard measurements, the black cartridge can print about 219 sheets. However, the color cartridge will print up to 207 sheets. Whereas, the optional models of the ink tanks can print 329 and 312 sheets respectively. But the capacities vary when the photo paper is in use for printing with these cartridges.

The standard rate of printing in black is about 19 pages per minute (ppm) when using plain paper. When the printer Canon PIXMA MP198 is working in color on a plain paper, the rate is about 15 ppm. Photo papers run at approximately 120 seconds for A4 and 70 seconds for 4 x 6 inches. Borderless printing supports paper sizes such as A4, letter, and photo sizes. For cut papers, the machine can work with legal, letter, A5, B5, envelopes.

Scanning resolution is about 600 x 1200 dots per inch (dpi) using the CIS scanning element. The rate of scanning is about 7 seconds when using an A4 paper. But the color scanning is up to 19 seconds on the same A4 paper at an average resolution of 300 dpi. This model is also compatible with the TWAIN/WIA features.
