The Brother MFC-8520DN is a different printer that functions with the electrophotographic laser technology. The standard memory capacity of the device is about 128 MB, a feature that differentiates it from its MFC-8510DN counterpart with 64 MB internal memory. There is also an option of one slot of DDR2 SO-DIMM memory type that can expand the interior to 256 MB of RAM.

The printer control panel has a liquid crystal display feature of 22 characters and five lines to make a responsive and user-friendly element. Physically too, the printer measures a weight of 16.0 kg, a width of 405 mm, a height of 423 mm and a depth of 415 mm.
Regarding the power demands, the average power consumption at the optimum performance is about 1200 watts at 250C. While copying, the approximate power consumption is 651 watts except for quiet mode which uses 336 watts. When the Brother MFC-8520DN printer is ready to print, the power consumption is 8.1 watts, and in deep sleep mode, the fair usage is 1.2 watts.
The automatic document feeder (ADF) holds up to 35 sheets of plain and legal paper, and the best performance requires specific conditions. For instance, the average temperature should be between 20 to 300C with a relative humidity range between 50 to 70%. The duplex printing is another advantage, and this feature helps the device to print on both sides of the page.
The printer input tray capacity holds plain, thin, thick and recycled paper of both standard and custom sizes. The maximum paper capacity, however, is up to 250 sheets of 80 gsm plain or legal paper. The average paperweight should be between 60 to 105g/m2. The compatible standard sized documents include A4, A5, B5, B6, executive, legal and many more. Apart from the standard tray, there is also an option of a second tray with similar compatibility but holds up to 500 sheets of plain paper.
