Epson XP-860 Driver lets the computer send print instructions and use the machine’s other software-controlled functions. The Epson XP-860 prints photos and documents, then adds scanning, copying, faxing, and direct photo output. Printing comes from a MicroPiezo printhead using six individual Claria Photo HD cartridges. Light cyan and light magenta join the standard black, cyan, magenta, and yellow inks for photo work. Scanning relies on a color CIS flatbed. For longer originals, the 30-sheet automatic document feeder reduces repeated manual loading. A 4.3-inch color touchscreen manages previews, navigation, and standalone jobs.
Print resolution reaches 5760 × 1440 dpi. Standard ISO output runs at 9.5 ppm in black and 9.0 ppm in color. Two-sided pages move more slowly, reaching 4.7 ppm for black documents and 4.5 ppm for color. The flatbed captures originals at 4800 dpi optical resolution, and copying reaches 8.1 ISO cpm. Borderless output is available through letter size, although it remains limited to compatible paper and photo formats.
Two front trays separate ordinary paper from photo stock. The main tray holds 100 plain sheets, which suits routine home documents better than lengthy unattended runs. A second tray carries 20 glossy photo sheets. Specialty material enters through the rear feed, and compatible inkjet CDs or DVDs use their own printing tray. Printed pages collect in a 30-sheet output tray. The automatic document feeder accepts legal-size originals and can process multi-page copying, scanning, or faxing jobs.
A nearby computer can connect through Hi-Speed USB. Network access is available over 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi or 10/100 Ethernet, and Wi-Fi Direct can operate without the home router. SD-family memory cards and compatible PictBridge cameras provide another route for computer-free photo printing. With its trays closed, the body measures 15.4 × 13.3 × 7.5 inches. Operating depth expands to roughly 23.5 inches, so extra space is needed during printing. Weight is about 21.2 pounds, and standalone copying draws approximately 21 watts.
