Printing with this device also supports up to 34 pages per minute (ppm) for black or monochrome text documents at the draft mode. On the other hand, color documents have a print rate of 18 ppm. Whereas, when using the ISO24734 standard for printing black texts on an A4 paper, the printer works at the rate of 9.0 images per minute (ipm). However, color printing has a print rate of 4.7 ipm under similar conditions. Photo paper printing with the Epson WorkForce WF-2540 machine is about 38 seconds on average.

The paper feed method also comprises a friction feed with a paper feeder and an automatic document feeder (ADF). The main paper input tray can load up to 100 sheets of plain paper of A4 size and an average weight of 64gsm. Furthermore, actual border-free printing is also available for 4×6, 5×7, and A4 sizes.

When scanning, the machine uses an A4 flatbed color image sensor (CIS). The supported paper size for scanning is also the A4 size while producing a scanning resolution of up to 1200 x 2400 dots per inch (dpi). Monochrome documents scan at 8.8 milliseconds per line for 1200 dpi. On the other hand, color documents have 28.5 milliseconds per line.
