The minimum RAM for Windows XP is 128 MB, but a 256 MB RAM is a strong recommendation. While for Windows Vista, 512 MB is the minimum, but 1 GB is the recommended volume. Also, for both versions of Windows, ensure a 4w CD-ROM and Writer. The expected free disk space on either your Windows XP or Vista should be 600 MB or 850 MB respectively.
The HP Deskjet D1660 uses an Inkjet technology which requires Ink cartridges. But the type of cartridge depends on the region of use. In the America and Asia Pacific (excluding China, India, and Japan), it uses HP 60. Whereas in Western Europe, the required cartridge is HP 300.
